Juventus aim to lure Javier Mascherano away from Barcelona at the end of this season, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Old Lady plans to rebuild her central midfield in the summer and Claudio Marchisio is the only player in that position Juventus consider untouchable.

La Gazzetta understands Beppe Marotta would sell Felipe Melo if the right offer were to arrive and that Alberto Aquilani is too expensive to buy outright from Liverpool.

La Gazzetta understands Beppe Marotta would sell Felipe Melo if the right offer were to arrive and that Alberto Aquilani is too expensive to buy outright from Liverpool.

Apparently the plan is to bring in Andrea Pirlo on a free transfer from Milan and partner the Italy international with Mascherano in a 4-2-3-1.

This would, of course, depend on Juventus appointing Zenit St Petersburg Coach Luciano Spalletti in the summer.

He is wedded to the 4-2-3-1 formation and any move in that direction would appear to indicate that Gigi Del Neri's time at the club is over.

Mascherano has made just 11 starting appearances for Barcelona this season and La Gazzetta claims that he has already voiced a desire to leave the Camp Nou.

Marotta's predecessor Alessio Secco once said that he almost signed Mascherano only for the deal to collapse when Juventus were relegated to Serie B after Calciopoli.
