Argentina are preparing for Friday’s World Cup quarter-final against the Netherlands and injury updates mean Juventus pair Angel Di Maria and Leandro Paredes are likely to start.

The team continues its training in Qatar ahead of the showdown, having got through the group stage and beaten Australia 2-1 in the Round of 16.

Di Maria was left on the bench throughout that knockout tie due to a muscular problem, but even worked on the squad’s day off in order to recuperate as quickly as possible.

According to the latest reports, Di Maria is now ready for his comeback and could well be in the starting line-up.

The same could be true of his Juventus teammate Paredes, because former Udinese midfielder Rodrigo De Paul has sustained a muscular injury too.

Coach Lionel Scaloni tested out an XI in training with both Paredes and Di Maria, but Inter striker Lautaro Martinez was again dropped in favour of Julian Alvarez.

Argentina (probable): E Martinez; Montiel, Romero, Otamendi, Tagliafico; Mac Allister, Paredes, E Fernandez, Di Maria; Messi, J Alvarez
