After a shaky start, Juventus composed themselves and flew to an impressive 6-1 win over Salernitana in the Coppa Italia Round of 16.
Without European competition, the Bianconeri are looking to string together a strong campaign in the cup as they look to get their hands on some silverware. For Salernitana, the match was a chance at redemption after a poor start to the season.
Salernitana took the lead after just a minute following an instant mistake from Federico Gatti, which allowed Chukwubuikem Ikwuemesi to poke the ball past Mattia Perin, giving the away side a 1-0 lead.
After taking some time to find their footing, Juventus found an equaliser in the 12th minute through Fabio Miretti, who was in the right place at the right time after Federico Chiesa’s cross was met by Andrea Cambiaso, who in turn headed the ball to the young midfielder.
The Old Lady started to pile on the pressure after finding their equaliser and their efforts were finally rewarded in the 35tth minute, when a calm volley from Cambiaso put the home side ahead following a corner.
The second half started a little slowly until a header from Milik was parried straight into the path of Rugani, who poked the ball home to make it 3-1 to Juventus.
Juventus showed their usual control as the second half developed, remaining comfortable in possession and refusing to take any major risks as the game progressed.
In the 75th minute, Kenan Yildiz had the chance to get himself on the scoresheet, but his shot was well saved by Fiorillo, who unfortunately parried the ball straight into Dylan Bronn, which led the ball unintentionally bounce into the back of the net.
In the closing stages of the match, an impressive solo effort from Yildiz put Juventus 5-1 up, and just minutes later Timothy Weah netted an incredible long shot to close out the match.
Massimiliano Allegri’s side will now face Frosinone in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals, and victory there would put them up against the victor of Lazio-Roma in the semi-finals.
