Juventus director Cristiano Giuntoli reportedly opened talks with the entourage of Mario Hermoso to explore a deal for the Atletico Madrid centre back.

The Bianconeri are preparing for the upcoming summer transfer window, looking around for low-cost reinforcements to bolster their team ahead of their return to the Champions League. Major investments are expected in the midfield, leaving less resources for other areas of the squad.

In recent weeks, multiple reports have suggested that top clubs including Manchester United are interested in investing for Juventus defender Gleison Bremer, forcing the Old Lady to look around for possible replacements. The Brazilian centre back has a circa €60m price tag.

Daniele Longo of Calciomercato.com details how Juventus sporting director Giuntoli recently contacted the agents of Hermoso to explore the idea of a free transfer in the summer, with the 28-year-old’s current contract with Atletico Madrid set to expire in June.

The Bianconeri are looking to pick up a left-footed defender who is skilled in one-on-ones and capable of contributing to build-up play. His €4m net per season salary also fit the club’s wage structure, and for now he’s proving more convincing than Bournemouth’s Lloyd Kelly.
