Maurizio Sarri is pushing to sign Arkadiusz Milik and Lazio have opened preliminary talks with the former Juventus striker, reports Gazzetta.

The Old Lady didn’t use a €7m option to buy to make Milik’s loan move permanent, so the Poland international will return to Marseille at the end of the month. Juventus’ option expired on June 10.

Multiple sources in Italy say Sarri strongly wants to reunite with Milik and according to Gazzetta, Lazio have opened preliminary talks with the 30-year-old. The striker has reportedly given his green light to move to the Stadio Olimpico, but financial details have not been discussed yet.

Juventus remain interested in Milik and according to Sky Sport Italia, the Bianconeri are confident of finalising a new deal with Marseille.

On the other hand, Lazio have concerns about the player’s age and his €3m-a-year salary. President Claudio Lotito would prefer investing in a younger player, such as Marcos Leonardo del Santos, a 20-year-old Brazilian striker who scored five goals at the U20 World Cup.

However, Sarri prefers Milik, demanding a more experienced option as a backup for Ciro Immobile in 2023-24.
