According to Tuttosport newspaper, Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri is not convinced about signing Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips in January, so club directors must convince the Italian tactician or work on a different target.

Phillips has emerged as one of Juventus’ main targets to strengthen their midfielder in the winter transfer window, following the suspensions of Paul Pogba and Nicolò Fagioli.

However, as reported by Tuesday’s printed edition of Tuttosport (page three), Allegri is not entirely convinced about signing the 28-year-old midfielder on loan.

Allegri needs a player who can replace Adrien Rabiot and the coach feels Phillips doesn’t have the same characteristics.

The Livorno-born tactician also has doubts regarding the formula of the transfer, as Phillips would move to Turin on loan until the end of the season, so he would have limited time to settle in. On the other hand, Allegri expects to welcome a player who can have an immediate impact in Turin.

The Italian coach will hold talks with club directors in the coming days, knowing that Phillips can still be a valuable low-cost option for the Bianconeri, especially because Man City would pay part of the midfielder’s salary during his temporary stay in Turin.
