Juventus, Milan, Inter and Roma given UEFA FFP fines

UEFA have announced Financial Fair Play fines for eight clubs, including Milan, Inter, Juventus, Roma and PSG, but Napoli, Lazio, Barcelona, Manchester City and Chelsea escape punishment due to ‘exceptional COVID deductions.’

A statement released by UEFA confirms that eight clubs have agreed to financial contributions of €172m, which will be withheld from any revenues these clubs earn from participating in UEFA club competitions.

However, only €26m of that figure is to be paid in full, while the remaining balance is condition based on compliance with the targets stated in their individual settlement agreements.

That means Milan have been asked to pay €2m out of a total €15m, Juventus are to pay €3.5m out of the total €23m, Inter €4m from their total of €26m and Roma must pay €5m out of their €35m fine.

The biggest fine goes to Paris Saint-Germain, who must pay €10m now, with €65m covered by the settlement agreement.

The other clubs penalised are AS Monaco (€0.3m out of €2m), Olympique Marseille (€0.3m out of €2m) and Besiktas (€0.6m out of €4m).

Juventus and Milan have a three-year settlement agreement, but it is four for Inter and Roma.

That means the Nerazzurri and Giallorossi will have restricted squads in Europe this season, with 23 players rather than 25.

Napoli, Lazio, Barcelona, Chelsea, Leicester City, Manchester City and West Ham United have avoided action due to “exceptional COVID deductions and consideration of historical financial results,” but from this season they will be “monitored closely.”

The others who failed to fulfil the break-even requirements, but were let off due to the COVID-19 emergency measures, include Borussia Dortmund, FC Basel, Union Berlin, Fenerbahce, Feyenoord, Olympique Lyonnais, Glasgow Rangers, Real Betis, Royal Antwerp, Sevilla, Trabzonspor and VfL Wolfsburg.
