Italy U-21 coach Paolo Nicolato confirmed that Juventus midfielder Nicolo Fagioli has sustained an injury to his ankle whilst training with the Azzurrini this week.

The announcement was made by the coach during his press conference ahead of the youth side’s international friendly against Serbia on Friday evening.

Nicolato confirmed that Fagioli has not trained since Juve’s 1-0 win over Inter at San Siro on Sunday evening, stating that the ankle problem has come as a result of a knock sustained during the Derby d’Italia.

His condition continues to be monitored day-by-day with the hope that he can recover in time for when the U-21s take on Ukraine on Monday night.

Should Fagioli’s condition fail to improve, he will return to Turin for further rehabilitation at JMedical with his domestic club side.

The 22-year-old has 26 games across all competitions to his name so far this season and is seen as an integral part of Massimiliano Allegri’s plans moving forwards for the coming seasons.
