Juventus midfielder Fagioli discussing plea bargain for betting

Juventus midfielder Nicolò Fagioli stands out from the others in the betting scandal, as he went to his club and the authorities to admit he had a gambling problem and that could be reflected in his punishment.

The investigation into the seemingly widespread practice of professional players in Italy gambling on illegal sites is spreading rapidly, but it started with Fagioli handing himself in to the authorities.

According to the timing of gossip columnist Fabrizio Corona’s story at the start of August, Fagioli had gone to Juventus and the authorities before his name leaked out.

He acknowledged he has a gambling addiction and is collaborating with the prosecutors to help them gather evidence.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, all of this will help him reduce the length of the ban and also speed up the process of his sporting justice trial.

There could even be a plea bargain discussed as early as next week.

It would at least halve the three-year ban, adding further discounts for the fact he was the one to hand himself in.
