Juventus have confirmed that Mattia De Sciglio suffered a torn cruciate ligament in their 2-1 win over Lecce, forcing the Italian full back to undergo surgery.

The 30-year-old was taken off the pitch in agony in the 33rd minute, crying as he was carried off on a stretcher. He had already suffered injury troubles this season, missing over 11 consecutive league matches with a hamstring issue in the first half of the campaign.

As announced by Juventus, tests carried out at J-Medical confirmed that De Sciglio had suffered a torn cruciate ligament in his right knee, an injury that will require surgical intervention in the coming days.

The injury spells the end of De Sciglio’s season and he will likely miss a number of games in the 2023-24 campaign.

The 30-year-old Italian full back, who is contracted to Juventus until June 2025, made 24 appearances across all competitions this season, seeing 1339 minutes of action.
