Real Madrid are named the world’s strongest football club brand, with Juventus the only Italian in the top 10, but Milan surging up the list following their Scudetto victory.

The Football 50 2022 list was published by Brand Finance, who every year analyse and rank the top 50 most valuable and strongest brands.

It seeks to estimate the net economic benefit that a brand owner would achieve by licensing the brand in the open market.

Real Madrid have achieved a rare ‘double’ by being both the world’s most valuable football cub brand for four years running, but this time are also named the strongest football brand in the world for the first time.

Manchester City have leapfrogged Barcelona for the first time since 2015 to be named brand value runner-up.

Juventus saw their brand value rise by 25 per cent to €705m and they remain the only Italian side in the top 10.

Brand Finance’s report cited “ global research which found that Juventus is one of the most loved clubs in the world with strong performance in all areas.  Juventus was rated particularly highly for stadium quality, perception of club quality, fair play, sponsorships, attractiveness for partners & broadcasters, and average crowd attendance.”

However, Milan’s brand value grew by a whopping 76 per cent over the past year to reach €269m, more than any other club in the world.

They climbed 12 places from 29th to 17th in the brand valuation ranking, but had been seventh when the first Football 50 list was published in 2010.

The good news for Serie A is that all the Italian football brands in the top 50 saw growth this year, Inter by 30%, Napoli 32%, Roma 49% and Atalanta rising by 52%.

Fiorentina were also a new entry into the top 50.

The top 10 strongest football brands are Real Madrid, Liverpool, Barcelona, Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Manchester City and in seventh place Juventus.

Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur complete the top 10.

  1. The. Hierarchy have devoted so much developing the brand that they have neglected the team their recruitment in the last 5 years has been atrocious the best way to promote your club is by winning the big trophies which is why Real Madrid is where it is today!

  2. Milan did not grow the most in terms of value… They did in terms of percentages. If Milan is now worth 269m in brand value & from last year grew by 76% it means they where worth about +/-150m in 2021, and their growth is +/- 119m. Juventus grew by 140m & i’m sure other clubs grew by even more in terms of value. So whoever made the calculations for this is wrong.
