Juventus hope that Roberto De Zerbi’s Brighton and Hove Albion are ready to take Arthur Melo off their hands after the Liverpool loan, or his salary will be a huge weight on the club.

According to Globo Esportes, the Bianconeri have such low hopes of making a sale that they are prepared to terminate his contract by mutual consent two years early.

That would help save €18m net over the next two seasons, between his salary and bonuses.

The Brazilian midfielder’s entire Juve career has been controversial and based more on using capital gains to balance the books than any genuine need for his characteristics as a player.

He arrived from Barcelona in September 2020 as part of a swap deal with Miralem Pjanic and was formally valued at €76m, vastly over-stating his worth at that time on the transfer market.

Injuries and poor performances followed, with things hardly improving during a loan spell at Liverpool that cost €4.5m for him to make just two senior appearances.
