Juventus are not sure whether Alberto Aquilani is the kind of midfielder they need next season, his agent has confirmed.

Aquilani spent last term on loan in Turin from Liverpool and it looked as if the Italian club would make the move permanent this summer.

However, their option to sign him outright for €16m expired on May 15 and his representative is now no longer certain that the midfielder will stay in Bianconero.

However, their option to sign him outright for €16m expired on May 15 and his representative is now no longer certain that the midfielder will stay in Bianconero.

"Juventus have asked us for a few days to reflect and in the meantime we are looking around in Italy and Europe," Franco Zavaglia told TMW.

"I don't think the problem is the transfer fee, but it has more to do with the system Juventus will play with. They are looking for a more defensive midfielder.

"Let's see what doors open for us, but Aquilani won't be left in the middle of a road because he still has three years to go on his Liverpool contract."

Juventus are expected to line-up in a 4-4-2 under Antonio Conte, with his two central midfielders set to offer cover for the attacking wingers.

Aquilani may thus be looking for a new club this summer, but Zavaglia cooled talk that his client is Milan's mystery Mr X.

"I'm not aware of Milan," the agent added. "At this moment in time it is all just speculation and we haven't been contacted by the Rossoneri."
