Juventus are fighting Leicester City for Sevilla midfielder Steven N’Zonzi, as Newcastle United want €40m for Moussa Sissoko.

The search for a midfielder continues after Paris Saint-Germain confirmed Blaise Matuidi is not for sale.

Sissoko had been the next option on the list, but the Sunday Mirror claims Newcastle are requesting €40m compared to the €17m on offer.

Real Madrid aren’t prepared to sell Mateo Kovacic and Inter refuse to send €30m-rated Marcelo Brozovic to a Serie A competitor.

The Daily Mail point towards N’Zonzi, who has a €30m release clause in his contract with Sevilla.

Also of interest to Leicester City, the 27-year-old has only been in Spain for a year.

Sevilla would prefer not to reinforce Juve, as they are in the same Champions League group.

However, if the release clause were to be activated and the player agreed personal terms, there would be little Sevilla could do.

Luiz Gustavo of Wolfsburg is another alternative at €25m, but the Germans are wary of letting an important player go so late in the transfer session.

Juve general manager Beppe Marotta said yesterday that signing a midfielder was not necessary.

“We’re missing the cherry on top, but still have a very nice cake.”
