Juventus defender Federico Gatti highlighted how he was keeping grounded after his emergence in Turin and revealed some interesting footballing idols.

The Bianconeri made a surprise move for the Italian centre back in January 2022, paying Serie B outfit Frosinone €5.4m for the relatively unknown defender.

After finishing the season in the second division, Gatti joined Massimiliano Allegri’s first team in Turin, and he showed his skills in Juventus’ recent wins over SC Freiburg and Inter.

Speaking to La Stampa, Gatti first discussed his recent performances at Juventus and how he’s reacted.

“Two good games don’t turn me into a phenomenon, just as two bad ones don’t make me a dud. There have been difficult moments and I know I will face more. I worked hard and waited for a chance.”

He was asked how many players were like him in the lower divisions.

“Mine is a unique story. There are many strong players, but that’s not enough. You have to have something more inside, as well as a lot of luck. I was in the right place at the right time, and I met people who believed in me.”

Finally, Gatti discussed some of his footballing idols.

“I liked Taarabt and Nainggolan, I always liked players with nastiness and character, like Gattuso.”

The 24-year-old Gatti, who is contracted to Juventus until June 2027, has made 12 appearances across all competitions this season, for a total of 993 minutes.

The Italian defender will be hoping for more chances in the coming weeks as he looks to continue breaking into the squad.
