Juventus are facing criticism for announcing Federico Chiesa has to be sold, as it could force them to lower their asking price, but cannot go below €15m or face making a net loss.

It was already well-known that the Italy international was not part of their plans for this season, but coach Thiago Motta announced on Sky Sport Italia after last night’s 2-2 friendly draw with Brest that there was no chance of welcoming him back into the fold.

There are quite a few options for him, including Napoli and Inter within Serie A, while his agent reportedly contacted Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.

Juve have been criticised for making the situation so obvious, as it sends out a message of desperation and means clubs can low-ball their offers with his contract set to expire in June 2025.

Chiesa price-tag has plummeted

Calciomercato.com took a close look at the figures to see just how much it will cost to sign one of the most talented players in Italian football.

The Bianconeri paid €12.6m to get Chiesa on loan from Fiorentina in 2020, with obligation to buy two years later for a further €44.6m.

Considering amortisation and the €5m per season net salary, the absolute minimum figure that Juventus can sell for and not make a net loss is €14.9m.

It is a far cry from the €25-30m that they had hoped for at the start of the summer.

6 thought on “Juventus forced to reconsider Chiesa asking price amid desperation”
  1. Can’t believe Motta would want to get rid of the best Italian player this generation. So stupid

  2. Better Motta wins at least 2 titles per season after he decided selling Chiesa. Imagine not winning any title after selling one of the best italian players now a days!!
