Juventus forward Nico Gonzalez in Argentina action against Chile

Juventus are awaiting the results of the first round of medical tests for Nico Gonzalez, who was forced to withdraw just six minutes into the second half of Argentina’s 3-0 win over Chile on Friday.

Juventus worry for Nico Gonzales after Arnegtina heel issue

According to the initial reports on Saturday, Nico has suffered a blow to his heel, and not to his ankle as was first reported in the minutes after the knock.

The former Fiorentina winger is expected to undergo medical assessments with the Argentina national team and Juventus will decide how to proceed once they have a better understanding of the situation.

It could be a blow for Thiago Motta, who also lost Francisco Conceicao to a muscular injury earlier this week. The Portuguese is expected to be sidelined for a number of weeks.

Both Nico and Conceicao arrived in the final days of the summer transfer window, and are effectively Juve’s only two senior wingers in the first-team squad.

Fortunately for Motta, Samuel Mbangula has emerged as a serious option, and may now have to step up to cover the gap left by his more senior colleagues.
