Juventus are reportedly concerned that they’ll be stuck with unneeded midfielder Arthur Melo, risking a repeat of the Aaron Ramsey situation.

The 26-year-old Brazilian midfielder has clearly been frozen out of the Bianconeri squad, evident recently as Manuel Locatelli officially took his number 5 shirt. Arthur seemed set for a move to Gennaro Gattuso’s Valencia this summer, but things have suddenly fallen quiet.

As reported by Calciomercato.com, Valencia have pulled out from signing Arthur because they don’t have the resources necessary to cover his high wages. The Brazilian earns around €5m net per season and he doesn’t intend to give up a penny.

Juventus have accepted the fact that they’ll need to contribute to his wages on a loan departure, but they don’t want to pay more than 50%, or €2.5m net. They’re struggling to find a team who’ll match their wage contribution, however, with many unconvinced after the 26-year-old’s drop in stock over the last few years.

The Bianconeri’s goal now seems to be avoiding a repeat of the Ramsey situation, who drove away suitors with his high wages and struggled to impress when sent away on loan. Eventually Juventus were forced to pay a termination fee to cut the Welshman, something they desperately want to avoid in the future with the Brazilian.

Arthur’s contract expires with Juventus in 2025, so they’re working hard to try and find a solution for the player in the remaining weeks of the transfer window.

  1. A small club that has done this many times and never learnt the lesson. The return of phd Max is the worst but 4th spot awaits.

  2. Valencia’s wages are capped at somewhere around 3M per season. It was strange they even tried for Arthur in the first place considering he doesn’t improve them.
