Dejan Kulusevski once again lit up the Premier League for Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur, only increasing the number of fans blaming Max Allegri for his failure to deliver at Juventus.

The Sweden international has provided more Premier League assists in 2022 than any other player, having made the move on loan with obligation to buy in January.

He started where he left off last season, scoring a goal and providing an assist in the 4-1 win over Southampton, which opened their season this afternoon.

Naturally, this performance – shown live on Sky Sport Italia – prompted an outpouring of irritation from Juventus fans who didn’t want him to be sold.

“Kulusevski is the perfect representation of the difference between being coached by Allegri and being coached by Conte,” wrote one supporter.

“Those who said Kulusevski was not worthy of Juventus might perhaps see it the other way round: Serie A was wasted on Kulusevski,” noted another.

The difference in focus on tactics has freed up the Swede to move around and “enjoy his football, something we seem to have forgotten in Italy.”

Some sniped at Allegri, suggesting he will try the same on Angel Di Maria and “try to turn him into a full-back too.”

  1. We have to save money and buy kulusevski for 150 millions, its sad to be fan of a team whos coach is gey and not interested how player is playing just interested in personality and looks

  2. Yeah milk the Juventus name FI. Where is the PHD dude who has Juventus living rent free on his head?

The mighty South Hampton fell to Kulusevsky, but can’t wait till he performs like this against the actual good teams in Europe. Judging by the comments here the uproar is always by a minority group given the loudspeaker to amplify the opinions of a small group of “fans”.

  3. No surprises really. Most young midfieldes do do not do well under Allegri. I’ll never understand Juve’s obsession with a guy who spent most of his playing career at low level teams.

  4. Even Giovinco looked good in MLS. Ranieri won EPL with a second-string team. Put him in a super tactical league and he struggles. I’m glad he’s found a league that suits his style of play. You could say the same thing about Ancelotti and Thierry Henri, so this is a pointless discussion.

  5. I have always said it and will keep saying it… Juve have an old skool coach who has keyed in into the Juve philosophy of ” only winning matters even if he plays catenaccio or pack the bus” that’s why Allegri is never condemn by Juve because it’s an emblem, a microcosm and embodiment of Juve! Thank God I’m not a Juve fan could have develop hypertension…. Can anyone tell me a player that has been developed by Allegri? Instead allegri has always been an obstacle to a players growth…unlike conte, Ancelloti, and co!

  6. He’ssuited for EPL – faster attacking football, with far less tatics, he is talented no doubt, but just not made for serie a.

However they are right about allegri v contre – no doubt conte miles ahead, allegri becomming wenger – outdated/slow/stubborn

  7. Kulu bombed under Pirlo and Allegri. He was given opportunities and didn’t take them. I’m glad he’s settled at Spurs, but to fault Max is nonsense. Also Allegri didn’t sell him. Cherubini did…

  8. Think the majority on this thread have forgotten how good he was at Parma, forget Juve…
As for EPL being over rated, it’s no1 in the coefficiency standings. No conjecture, just a fact. Serie A needs to get back up there and they’ll only do that by not subduing talent then flogging it to EPL…

  9. Kulu will end up been juve biggest mistake.
The blame is on allegri who did not believe in him.
He was constantly played out of position.
It’s a pity we let such a talent leave for peanuts.
He’s now a hit at tottenham rather than juve.
The young lads like rovella, fagioli and miretti is next.

  10. Guys, he played a great game against Southampton. Let’s call for Calmaaaaa as one-joke CoD Gump often says. Let’s see him do that in the CL against Real and then we’ll talk. No disrespect to Southampton btw, but let’s have perspective.

  11. I dont understand this article at all. Premier League has no defense, its a very fast paced league so its obvious that players will find more space to score. Kulusevski is good player no doubt about it, but I am sorry he just looked always one move shy from the player everyone wants him to be. He had his opportunities and he was pretty average.

  12. CALAMAAA!!!
Never fear the old lady will be back for Kulusevski once he reaches the young age of 33 when he will be perfect for PHD Max
    See you then

  13. It’s easy for every mediocre slow winger to cross on or two every single match in a league where teams literally defend with maximum 3 defenders comparing to Serie A where teams defend with 12 people ( including the coach ) and almost all the time there are two players marking opponents’ wingers. a fan that doesn’t know that is just a noob

  14. People can make all the excuses in the world. The fact that Dejan is playing in the most sought after league in the world speaks volumes. Serie a is more tactical but how much success has that translated into on the European stage. EPL has the best players and he is playing against the best. Barring Southampton and a lot more clubs, the standard in England is far higher. With more games being played, little time to recover and no winter break, the demands are far greater especially with their pace and physicality. Maybe Kulusevski has just found the better environment, a coach that believes in him, better players, better facilities as well as a group that trusts him. At Juve, its not just about football. Maybe he was isolated and they never give players at that age any time to shine. Look at the long list of young players farmed out and never been given enough time to mature.

  15. He was Serie A young player of the year so clearly he knew how to play in Italy. It all depends on the tactics of the coach and his current team

  16. There’s no doubting the lad has talent, but maybe he was out of his depth at juve, too big for him and with that comes the added pressure, yes tactically didn’t fit at all and that is down to the Coaches/manager etc to an extent, but to compare the spuds to the likes of juve is laughable! They are and always will be a mediocre club in a over hyped media loved league that has money! But more to the point about the player himself, maybe he’s found his level hence why he performed at Parma too…only time will tell on this one, and yes juve and allegri are living in the dark ages when it comes to ambition and mentality

  17. @tony when u have that much money floating around of course you will have the better players! With all due respect the coefficients league tables etc were scrapped just on time for the EPL to keep its 4 champs league spots, there is no doubt money talks it’s as simple as that it’s the best marketed league around! Coupled with the S cycles being seen in all the other European leagues its bound to happen…

  18. @tony when u have that much money floating around of course you will have the better players! With all due respect the coefficients league tables etc were scrapped just on time for the EPL to keep its 4 champs league spots, there is no doubt money talks it’s as simple as that it’s the best marketed league around! Coupled with the S cycles being seen in all the other European leagues its bound to happen…it all is down to money, take away all the foreign coaches and the best foreign players in all teams what do u have left?!

  19. EPL is 2 teams. They finish 20 points ahead of anyone else. They already created the Superleague within their own league.

  20. Not surprised Conte is an elite coach while Allegri is a clown. Nobody ask for his return after Pirlo. Agnelli and Allegri 2 clowns that deserve each other hopefully both leave Juve soon.

  21. Playing for Tottenham against Southampton is not the same as playing for Juve against Milan. Kulusevski played well in Parma but failed in Juve. Same thing happened to a lot of players. This does not mean, if we bring them back they start playing as champions. Let’s move on and forget about it

  22. Great debate, all I can say is good luck to Kulusevski, he contributed to the two trophies won at Juventus, especially in the Coppa Italia Final where he scored.

It’s a shame it didn’t work out, but that’s how football is, certain players are suited to other leagues.

As for the Premiere League / Serie A debate, it just makes that win at Wembley even better lol.

  23. It’s probably down to several things.

People who say the epl is overrated are right, but it’s still better than Serie A. And they seem to forget he was great at Parma, so he can do it in Italy.

Allegri was always negative, and has become worse since his return. His mentality seems to be that he has a weaker squad than the first time around, so he needs to be ultra cautious and hope for a win or a draw rather than forcing the issue and dominating the game. He’s even scared of small teams now.

Conte tends to get the best out of players too. Who would you rather play for? A fired-up Conte or a guy who’s scared to cross the halfway line?

I pity Vlahovic this season. He may be living off scraps.

  24. Is there any surprise here? Allegri spent most of his career playing for low level garbage teams where the objective was to always not loose but never actually win. A tie 1-1 would be considered a win and playing well. Just enough to not get relegated. His career was built on top of that playing style so you’ve seen it manifest itself in his coaching career. Why Juve would want a coach like this with limited ambition is baffleing.

  25. @Ferban you genius or sth ?
no-one defends against Parma with 12 players but all Serie A teams do that against Juve. bunch of noobs here

  26. @Brian

A noob who knows you can only possibly defend with 10 players, though.

There aren’t 12 on the pitch to do so, Brian, and the keeper can’t leave his box.

You suggesting Serie A is far more defensive seems strange given the fact there were far more goals in Italy than England.

And I saw Juve sit back time and again last season. They weren’t doing the attacking. They were the second lowest scorers in the top 12, and scored only 7 goals more than promoted Empoli.

  27. @Ferban
You’re so genius you don’t get the joke . lol
Every team in Serie A defends with 12 players ( including the coach ) . Even Maxdoes that .
Get over Kulusevski. He won’t come back. You’re free to become a Tottenham fan and watch your team being crushed by teams that are run with dirty Arab money.

  28. Listen everyone knew letting Kulusevski go was a mistake, but he simply didn’t match with us. Some players fit on some teams and others do not. Slamming Allegri for this makes no sense whatsoever, as there are players who were on Tottenham that didn’t fit well with them who then proceeded to leave and do well like Lo Celso. Players fit teams it’s just the way things are there is no need to slam managers for this.

  29. @Brian

I got the “joke” – it just wasn’t a joke to begin with.

No, they don’t defend with 12 (2 imaginary ones) players – that’s why there’s so many goals in Serie A. End to end breaks are the common sight now. Far more goals and chances to score in Italy than England.

Thanks for the offer. I don’t need to “get over him”, whatever that means.

Didn’t Spurs get 8 points off top 2 last season and remain undefeated? Inter and Milan (the 2 best teams in Italy, not the 4th or 5th like Spurs) got 3 and lost 3 times.

Looks like that dirty Arab money (that you’d love at your club) crushes the Serie A sides a lot more than it does Spurs.

But you’ll get over that fact 👍
