FIFA President Gianni Infantino joked with journalists saying that it’s the ideal day to be in Florence because Fiorentina and Inter won and Juventus lost and the Old Lady’s fans haven’t taken it too well…

Infantino attended an event to honour the memory of Artemio Franchi in Florence today. He urged Italian football authorities to name Rome’s Stadio Olimpico after Italy legend Paolo Rossi, but one more statement hasn’t made Juventus fans too happy.

Infantino: ‘Italy vs. Brazil referee admitted mistake, Paolo Rossi…’

Infantino was asked whether Serie A should limit the number of foreign players for their clubs and the 52-year-old replied with a joke that not many enjoyed.

“First of all, we are in Florence today. Fiorentina won, Juventus lost, so it’s all good. Inter won, so I am happy, it’s the ideal day to be in Florence. It’s a very exciting season [in Serie A].”

Although Infantino’s joke was meant to be innocent, Juventus fans on social media are pretty upset with the head of FIFA and have been criticising him on Twitter. The Old Lady suffered a 1-0 loss against Inter at the Allianz Stadium last night, ending their dreams of winning the Scudetto.

  1. Dette viser at infantino ikke er særlig smart, til tross for at han ble tildelt en orden i Russland.

  2. Anyone complaining about that has little else to worry about. Bad joke, so what? Do you want Will Smith to slap him or what?

  3. He must be an Inter fan then and not a good look but Fifa is the football swamp. Farmers League that cannot even work the VAR properly and they interpret it in a way making the VAR pointless. But it is good if you are Marotta and Inter as Torino fans can relate.

  4. People need to calm down. I wanted Juve to to beat Inter and they should have, but it’s just a joke. The tribalism is too much and does not help calcio one bit.

  5. I know juventini are sad and frustratred right now. Fans on social media, and i hear Nedved is still in the stadium kicking adverisement boards.

Havent heard from I MISS MARCO BRANCA recently too. Wonder why.

  6. To all the people saying it’s just a joke, do you not think that firstly as head of FIFA he needs to be neutral and secondly he’s having a dig about the SL which again as head of FIFA he should handle differently?

  7. I think everyone needs to chill. Yes, FIFA is the most corrupt sporting organisation on earth and Gianni is no saint but, so what if he is an Inter fan and wanted Fiorentina to win and Juve to lose? I’m sure that every person working for FIFA and UEFA have a team they support – we are all football fans for goodness sake.

  8. Is there no other Italian, who has given more to this sport?

What about Juve legend Ferrari, Inter legend Meazza & Bologna legend Monzeglio = the trio that won 2 FIFA World Cups

Don’t get me wrong Rossi was outstanding in 1982 but it was “only” 1 World Cup not 2…

  9. I’ve seen this guy handling balls during draws and staring into the camera with a grin. Something funny about this guy. I agree that he should be neutral and not sway towards any team.
