Alessandro Del Piero has weighed in on the Dusan Vlahovic situation, believing that there might be a ‘psychological aspect’ preventing the Serbian from scoring goals in a Juve shirt.

Vlahovic has now gone six games without a goal for Juve across all competitions, most recently being withdrawn after 67 minutes of the 1-0 win over Freiburg in the Europa League on Thursday evening.

Speaking to Sky Sport Italia after the match, Del Piero said of Vlahovic: “We all believe he has the qualities to score goals. I didn’t enjoy watching him tonight, there were a couple of situations where you have to be able to at least get a shot on goal.

“Maybe there’s a psychological aspect that isn’t right or isn’t particularly helping at the moment.  The Juventus shirt comes with a lot of pressure, these matches when you don’t score weigh heavily on you.”

The most recent occasion that Vlahovic found the net for the Bianconeri was in the 1-1 draw against Nantes in the first leg of the Europa League play-off round on February 16.

His last goal in Serie A came on February 7, bagging a brace in the 3-0 win against Salernitana at the Stadio Arechi. Since then he has blanked in league games against Spezia, Torino and Roma.

“There have been other moments in the season when he has struggled more than he is at present,” Del Piero continued. “He has to stay focused up front. He trusts Allegri, the coach and the fans, so he has to stay calm and work hard.”

Massimiliano Allegri remains confident that Vlahovic will eventually be able to replicate the form that earned him an €80m move to Juve from Fiorentina in January 2022.
