Juventus defender Bonucci set for Union Berlin medical

Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci will leave Turin this evening, undergoing his medical with Union Berlin on Friday.

The Italy international is set to leave the Old Lady after training separately from the team for the entire summer.

Sky Sport Italia and Goal.com’s Romeo Agresti claim the Italy centre-back will fly out from Turin in the evening. Bonucci, 36, is expected to undergo his medical with Bundesliga side Union Berlin on Friday.

According to Sky, Juventus will pay 50% of Bonucci’s salary in Berlin, circa €3.5m. The defender will join the Bundesliga side on a free transfer signing a one-year deal with an option for a further campaign.

The summer transfer window in Germany ends on September 1 at 17:00 BST, two hours before Serie A.

Bonucci was no longer part of Juventus’ plans as confirmed by Cristiano Giuntoli during his unveiling press conference in July.

Max Allegri has recently confirmed that he had informed Bonucci in February that Juventus would no longer count on him in 2023-24.

The veteran defender still hopes to be called up by Italy for the 2024 EURO, so he will join the Bundesliga side that will be playing in the Champions League for the first time ever this season.
