According to reports in England, Juventus will be welcomed back into the European Club Association after President Andrea Agnelli’s resignation, even though they continue to push for the European Super League.
The Bianconeri were among the ringleaders of the failed project in April 2021 and one of three clubs still committed to the idea today, along with Real Madrid and Barcelona.
At the time it was announced, Agnelli was the President of the ECA, which put him in the spotlight for ‘betraying’ the group.
The original 12 Super League clubs – including Juventus, Inter and Milan – resigned from the ECA when the European Super League was presented.
All of them except for Juve, Barcelona and Real Madrid have since rejoined the union.
Now Agnelli has resigned along with the entire Juventus Board of Directors amid an investigation into alleged financial irregularities by the Turin public prosecutor, the FIGC and UEFA.
According to the Daily Mail newspaper, that means Juve are laying the groundwork for a return to the ECA.
It would be a surprise, considering only last month the Super League trio formed a new company called A22 to advocate for a new version of the project.
Current ECA President Nasser Al-Khelaifi of PSG is now expected to invite new Juventus chief Maurizio Scanavino to come back to the European Club Association.
