Juventus and Barcelona‘s men and women teams will meet in the Gamper Trophy on August 8, the Bianconeri have confirmed.

“Juventus’ summer has just gotten a whole lot more exciting with a fascinating challenge. On August 8, the Bianconeri will challenge Barcelona at the Camp Nou for the Gamper Trophy,” Juventus official statement reads.

“There is a splendid novelty: it will be a double challenge. The Women’s teams will first face off against each other, before then seeing the two men’s sides take to the pitch.

“Juventus Women and Barcelona Femení will open the day in a match between the Italian and Spanish champions (kick-off at 18:30 CEST). The Catalans, who also won the UEFA Women’s Champions League last season, represent the ideal high-level opponent in order to prepare for the first official matches of the season (starting on 18 August in the Champions League). Among other things, it is not the first time that the two teams face each other: in the 2019/20 season a double confrontation took place in UWCL, which ended in two Barça victories.

“At 21:30 CEST, Max Allegri’s Juventus and Ronald Koeman’s Barcelona will be on the field. The Bianconeri and Blaugrana have often faced each other in great challenges in the Champions League (the most recent coming this past season), while it will be the second time they meet in the Gamper Trophy: the previous one took place 24 August 2005 and ended 2-2 in regulation time, with goals from Del Piero, Trezeguet, Iniesta and van Bronckhorst, before the Bianconeri snuck the victory on penalties.

“It goes without saying that it will be a day of great football – the perfect starter to a new season.”
