Multiple sources report that Juventus are close to completing the signing of the talented young Uruguayan defender Facundo Gonzalez from Valencia

Both La Gazzetta dello Sport and Tuttosport report that a deal is in the advanced stages and could be finalised at the beginning of next week.

Juve have supposedly fended off interest from a number of clubs in Italy and across Europe, with Salernitana named as one of the clubs particularly keen on acquiring Gonzalez.

The 20-year-old starred for Uruguay during the U20 World Cup in Argentina, eventually lifting the trophy with his teammates in La Plata, defeating Italy 1-0 in the final.

Gonzalez and Uruguay conceded just two goals all tournament, both of which came in the 3-2 win over England in the Group Stages. They went on to record clean-sheets in all four of their knock-out round matches.

He is also both a Spanish and Italian passport holder, having moved to Europe with his parents and qualifying for Italian citizenship through his great-grandfather. This means that he would not occupy one of Juve’s slots reserved for non-EU players if he were to sign.

Though he is yet to feature for Valencia’s first team, Gonzalez has made 59 appearances for Valencia Mestalla, the club’s affiliated B side, who currently play in the fourth division of Spanish football.
