While Juventus are targeting Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City, it is reported that Max Allegri would prefer Pierre-Emil Hojbjerg of Tottenham Hotspur instead.

The perfect candidate to reinforce the midfield in January would be Teun Koopmeiners, but Atalanta have not the slightest intention of even listening to offers for the Dutch star.

Considering the Bianconeri are seeking someone on loan with an option to buy rather than to be purchased outright, the most likely option is Phillips, who is spending much of this season on the bench at Manchester City.

It is a real fall from grace considering the club paid €49m to sign him from Leeds United in the summer of 2022.

However, Sky Sport Italia transfer pundit Gianluca Di Marzio insists Allegri is not at all convinced by Phillips and would prefer a different type of midfielder.

His pick would be Hojbjerg, who is under contract with Tottenham until June 2025 and could be allowed to leave on loan with an obligation to buy.

This is no easy alternative, as there is also interest from Napoli and other Premier League clubs too.
