It’s believed that Manchester United would the most likely destination for the 30-year-old, with claims that manager Louis van Gaal has asked for him specifically.

However, according to Italian newspaper Leggo, the Bianconeri are also in the hunt, with Coach Massimiliano Allegri keen to bolster his options in midfield to allow Andrea Pirlo more resting time.

The newspaper reports that De Jong is asking for a three year deal with Milan, with an annual salary of €3.5m.

Leggo believes though that Milan are not willing to offer that without any guarantee of Champions League income, and will only go as high as €2.5m.
