Juventus director Maurizio Arrivabene admits Matthijs de Ligt wants to leave but warns Chelsea that all three parties must be satisfied.

The Dutch defender has a contract until June 2024 and the Old Lady has been in talks to extend his stay for several months. However, De Ligt wants to leave the club and Chelsea are now negotiating for his signature.

“We go back to talking about players who follow the advice of agents or colleagues instead of the club,” Arrivabene told Tuttosport newspaper when asked about the Dutch defender.

“Today, keeping a player who wants to leave is impossible. It’s not always about the money and if one wants to go, you don’t just tell him: ok, go ahead.

“It’s hard to keep a player, but all those sitting at the table of negotiations must be satisfied. Who has the money wins.”

De Ligt joined Juventus from Ajax in an €85.5m deal in 2019. He has scored eight goals in 117 appearances with the Bianconeri, winning the Serie A title in 2019-20, his first season at the club.

A few weeks ago, the Dutch defender admitted that he hadn’t reached an agreement to extend his contract at the Allianz Stadium and that his only target was to develop: “For now, I do at Juventus,” he said while on international duty with the Netherlands.

Chelsea’s latest offer for De Ligt is €40m plus Timo Werner or Christian Pulisic, but Juventus want a higher offer to sell their star defender.

  1. Arrivabene was terrible at Ferrari and he is terrible at Juventus, the whole club strategy is dissaster. Idiots could keep Romero, Demiral and with De Ligt it would great future for Juve. They could sign Donnarumma for nothing, they could sign Haaland instead of Dortmund, they could keep 30 years old Dybala but they didn’t, they brought almost 35 years old Di Maria. What a bunch of morons is running this club, not even mentioning moves like Arthur, Kulusevski, Moise Kean. Juventus was not long ago the best managed club in Italy, now it’s the worst from all Serie A clubs even if they have biggest spending power.

  2. The have to sell his if he doesn’t want to stay. Fleece some dumb epl side.

Juve, after years of being so good in the market, have become one of the worst over the last 4 or 5 years.

They had Romero too and let him go.

De Ligt has been good, but never reached the levels expected of him. If they were to sell him for big money and get Bremer for 30m+, then it’d be a good deal.

  3. Where does he say that De Ligt wants to leave?

Funny how people make judgements of the Juve directors even before the market has opened.

They signed Locatelli and Vlahovic and are letting go of a lot of mediocre players now.

  4. title is “JUVENTUS CEO ADMITS CHELSEA TARGET DE LIGT WANTS TO LEAVE”

and then you read entire article and nowhere in it is quote saying such a thing…
so he either never specified De Ligt wants to leave and author here is lying/making asumptions or he did but author didn’t include it for some reason

either way really bad look for author

  5. Juve SHOULD sell him ASAP and buy Koulibaly , youth defenders are always headache , maybe he become the best defender in 5 years , good for him

  6. We all know de ligt wants to go and juve want to sell – however juve cant admit this as this will lower the price.
Sell at 100m euros if not then sell slightly lower and get a player in return like jorgino/kavacic

  7. @Paratici

He’s been Inter bound for about a month now. And Spurs bound. And Chelsea bound, and Milan bound, and Juve bound, and all the other bound stories lol

We have no idea where he’s going until he’s officially signed. Like this story above, most are made up

  8. Who can blame him. There is no chance of Juve competing for the CL and it will take 3000 years just to enter into that conversation. He knows the back, back, down, down is not improving his game and in turn the Dutch Phil Jones has always been overrated. One good season with Ajax along with his brother de Jong fooled a lot of people. No need to panic. PhD Max will just improvise and put Dusan in defence. He is big, tall and has the aerial ability. With no forward line that is okay as PhD Max can adopt his favored 11-0-0 for 90 mins, carving out a 0-0 and that will be like 3 pts for Sun Szu Max.

  9. Not surprising. He’s already won the Scudetto. What is there left to do with Juve? The CL will probably always be out of reach under Sun Szu Max.
