Juventus can terminate Paul Pogba’s contract as the French midfielder has received a four-year ban for doping, but the Serie A giants will first talk to the midfielder’s entourage first and could wait until June in any case.
A report from Calcio&Finanza confirms Juventus can terminate Pogba’s contract after the French midfielder received a four-year ban for doping.
According to the collective agreement stipulated by professional clubs and the Footballers’ Association, Juventus can terminate the midfielder’s contract because the length of Pogba’s ban is superior to six months.
However, the club will decide the next steps alongside the player’s entourage, especially because Pogba has always collaborated with the club and authorities since failing a doping test in August 2023.
Calcio&Finanza add that even if Juventus decide to terminate Pogba’s contract they may wait until June 2024 to make their decision effective.
This is to avoid paying a penalty fee for the financial aid obtained in 2022 when the French midfielder returned to Turin on a free transfer from Manchester United. Juventus saved 50% of the player’s gross salary thanks to the Growth Decree, which has now been scrapped, when Pogba returned to Italy less than two years ago.
It’s been reported that Pogba will file an appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne and as reported by AP bans ‘can be reduced in cases where an athlete can prove their doping was not intentional, if the positive test was a result of contamination or if they provide “substantial assistance” to help investigators.’
