Juventus defender Gleison Bremer has revealed that he was named after former Inter legend and West Germany World Cup winner Andreas Brehme, who died on Tuesday at the age of 63.

Reports on Tuesday morning confirmed that Brehme died of a sudden and unexpected cardiac arrest.

Brehme had won the 1988-89 Serie A title with Inter, along with a Supercoppa Italiana and UEFA Cup in the years following. He had also won two Bundesliga and two DFB Pokal titles with Kaiserslautern and Bayern Munich, before lifting the World Cup trophy with West Germany at Italia ‘90.

Juventus defender Bremer is one of many figures within the world of Italian football to pay tribute to the late Brehme after the news on Tuesday morning.

Bremer posted to his Instagram story, revealing that his father wanted to name him after his favourite footballer, Brehme.

“You were my father’s idol, who wanted to name me after you. For me, you will always remain an example of sportsmanship. Ciao Andy!,” the Juventus defender wrote on Tuesday afternoon.
