Juventus have asked Southampton for the opportunity to take Carlos Alcaraz on loan with option to buy for €40m, claim Sky Sport Italia, and are closing on a deal.

It is no secret that the Bianconeri are looking for a low-cost attacking midfielder in the January window.

According to transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, Juve asked Southampton if they could take Alcaraz on loan with an option to buy at the end of the season.

Within an hour, that report had escalated to Fabrizio Romano and Di Marzio claiming a deal was imminent and medical could be tomorrow, on loan with option to buy for €40m.

The 21-year-old is on the fringes of the Argentina national team after three caps at Under-23 level.

He was only purchased from Racing Club a year ago for €13.65m.

So far this season, Alcaraz has made 26 competitive appearances for the Saints, contributing four goals and three assists.

They are in the Championship – the English version of Serie B – but it remains to be seen if Southampton are prepared to let him leave on these terms.

Juve had already been linked with loans for Giacomo Bonaventura of Fiorentina and Udinese veteran Roberto Pereyra.
