With Arthur Melo refusing to leave Barcelona, Juventus have asked for Frenkie de Jong in the exchange deal with Miralem Pjanic instead.

Multiple sources stated today that Arthur will not accept any transfer away from Camp Nou this summer, scuppering the planned swap with Pjanic.

As the two clubs and Pjanic are still fully agreed on the deal, they are trying to find an alternative name who can make the switch to Turin.

According to RMC Sport, one of the contenders is former Ajax midfielder De Jong.

He’d be able to reunite with his old teammate Matthijs de Ligt and has not quite settled in to life at Barcelona.

However, the 23-year-old cost €75m only a year ago and Barcelona would not accept letting him go so soon.

Curiously, Dutch legend Louis van Gaal said in March that “Frenkie de Jong should have gone to Juventus. Barca lack more a De Ligt type player than De Jong.”
