Juventus and Roma are reportedly planning an exchange deal in the January transfer window between Mattia De Sciglio and Rick Karsdorp.

The straight swap would enable both clubs to resolve their own issues and help the players start new chapters of their careers too.

Karsdorp was frozen out following a bitter row with Roma coach Jose Mourinho, who publicly blamed him for the draw with Sassuolo by coming off the bench with a ‘bad attitude’ and ‘betraying’ his teammates.

However, he seems to be back in the fold, as he participated in training sessions and even played in a friendly test last week.

Both Karsdorp and De Sciglio have similar salaries set at circa €2m per season and their contracts both run to June 2025.

Juve have been linked with a move for Karsdorp and the exchange would give De Sciglio more regular playing time, as he is struggling to recover from a thigh injury.

Another reason why De Sciglio could be on the way out is that he is along with Matthijs de Ligt one of the Juventus players who showed Giorgio Chiellini’s WhatsApp messages to public prosecutors in Turin investigating financial irregularities.

Those messages show Juve players knew full well they were only giving up one month of their wages rather than four during the pandemic.

This prompted some Bianconeri supporters to turn on De Sciglio and accuse him of being a ‘traitor’ to the club.
