Both Juventus and Inter will be keeping a close eye on Benfica left-back Alejandro Grimaldo in tonight’s Champions League clash, as he will be a free agent in July, but they face competition from Barcelona.

The 27-year-old Spaniard was a product of the Barcelona youth academy, but left in January 2016 to begin his long career in Portugal.

There is a €60m release clause in his contract, although that deal is due to expire in June 2023 and so far an extension seems unlikely to materialise.

Grimaldo will therefore be able to begin negotiating directly with other clubs from January so he can move in the summer as a free agent.

According to Sky Sport Italia, both Juventus – who face him directly this evening in the Champions League trip to Lisbon – and Inter are keeping track of his situation and preparing an offer.

Grimaldo is a very attack-minded left-back, providing three assists and one goal in 18 competitive matches so far this season.

However, it is also reported that his dream is a return to Barcelona and they would have the priority over any other future destination.
