Juventus are second behind Chelsea after the 4-0 defeat on Tuesday and need the Blues to slip up against Zenit St Petersburg to secure first place.

The Bianconeri had already secured a place in the last 16 when they travelled to London earlier this week, but were fighting for the top spot in Group H.

Allegri: ‘Juventus have limitations’ after Chelsea hammering

But the Old Lady was battered by the Blues in the English capital and thus lost their advantage in the direct clashes with Chelsea too.

Juventus won the first match 1-0 in Turin, but the 4-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge turned the momentum in favour of the Premier League side.

Both teams are now qualified for the knockout stages, but one match is missing to decide the top spot in the group and a favourable draw in the last 16.

Juventus host Malmö FF in the next round, on December 8, when Chelsea travel to Russia to play Zenit, who are already qualified for the Europa League even with a defeat.

Malmö FF sit bottom with one point from the match against Zenit, who are three points above the Swedes with one game remaining.

The Russians’ win against Malmö in St Petersburg have ensured them of a place in the next round even if the Swedes should catch up with them on points.

Juventus, however, need to better Chelsea’s result in the last round to claim first.

  1. If Juve dont buy 1 or 2 midfielders and 1 good striker, I cant see them getting very far in the CL. Even if they do buy, the likes of Pool, Bayern, Man City are very challenging opponents.
