Juventus and Barcelona added rainbow colours to their logos on social media after UEFA declined the request to illuminate the Allianz Arena in support of LGBTQ+ rights.

Europe’s governing body declined the request from the Munich city council to illuminate the Allianz Arena in rainbow colours for tonight’s match between Germany and Hungary.

The request followed the Hungarian’s parliament decision to ban gay people from featuring in school educational materials or TV shows for under-18s.

UEFA turned the request down given its ‘political context’ and considering it ‘a message aiming at a decision taken by the Hungarian national parliament.’

Juventus and Barcelona showed support to LGBTQ+ rights by adding rainbow colours to their logos on social media and were followed by other clubs such as Bayer Leverkusen and Cologne.

Milan have also joined posting their rainbow-coloured logo.
