In an interview with Tele Radio Stereo 92.7, the World Cup-winner doubts that the Giallorossi can still compete for the Scudetto.

“Juve are broken away in the title race, they're on the run for yet another triumph because they are still the best team,” said Lippi today.

“At the beginning of the season I thought Roma might be able to keep up, then something happened that only [Coach Rudi] Garcia knows about. But they should still fight to the end.

“Napoli should not be playing for third place, they should play for first. They may not make it, but with their potential they should never content themselves with the third spot.

“As for Sampdoria, their merits can be traced back to their Coach. [Sinisa] Mihajlovic deserves our compliments, he plays like a great team and he has the right mentality, tenacious just like himself.”

The former Coach of Juventus and Inter also took the opportunity to speak of Alberto Gilardino and Alessandro Diamanti, who are returning to Serie A after their experience in Guangzhou Evergrande.

“They can be an added value for Fiorentina, their experience in China enriched them.

“To keep up a relationship with some players you don't have to see each other all the time, there can be a rapport that is consolidated, full of great affection.

“This is what binds me to Francesco Totti and Daniele De Rossi.

“For me it was an honour to coach Francesco, a pleasure and a satisfaction, he never stops amazing us.

“And the best thing of all is that he's doing so well both physically and mentally that he doesn't even think about stopping.

“De Rossi isn't quite so lucky physically, but he's a fantastic lad and a great footballer. Now he has a new problem with his calf, he already had that in South Africa.”

Finally, the Coach from Viareggio spent a few words on the new Azzurri.

“I like the mentality that [new Coach Antonio] Conte is instilling into his team. It's a preparatory work for the competitions they'll be competing in, starting from the Euros.

“This is important when you select a Coach. Antonio knows how to pass this mentality on to his players.”
