Juventus shareholders have criticised the Old Lady for the sales of Cristian Romero and Cristiano Ronaldo but backed ‘necessary’ Super League project.

The Bianconeri shareholders pointed out the need to ‘find a point of aggregation’, as they consider the Super League ‘necessary’, but criticised the management at Continassa during the Assembly on Friday.

Super League ‘not just right, but necessary’

Juventus shareholders are united with President Andrea Agnelli in the battle for the Super League.

Giorgio Foletti underlined the ‘reform is not only convenient, but it is necessary’, pointing at the turnover of American football to highlight the lack of resources in European football.

But Andrea Danubi asked for protection from Agnelli: “We cannot always be silent when avalanches of mud are thrown at us by [UEFA President Aleksander] Ceferin or [Napoli patro] Aurelio De Laurentiis. We want to feel protected.”

Luca Riviora added that the Super League will ‘lock in the needed income for the biggest clubs and guarantee a greater show’.

The Bianconeri shareholders have thus asked the patron to continue the fight the system, with Juventus, Real Madrid and Barcelona currently taking legal action against UEFA and FIFA.

Criticised the management

But even with the backing for the Super League, the members of the Assembly didn’t hold back in their criticism of the sporting management at the Allianz Stadium.

The shareholders pointed at the frequent changes in the dugout, as Juventus have appointed a new coach ahead of the last three campaigns and lack consistency at the helm.

In addition to the coach, the sales of Cristiano Ronaldo and, above all, Cristian Romero, was poorly digested by the shareholders.

Enrico Sclavo underlined the Romero business as poor when he pointed at the valuation of the Argentine defender.

“He was bought for €20m, sold to Atalanta for less, who then sold him to [former Juventus director Fabio] Paratici, who moved to Tottenham.”

The transfer market was a hot topic during the Assembly, as the managers were criticised for the choices in recent years and for the latest results on the pitch.

Nedved confirmed, Arrivabene appointed

But President Agnelli started the press conference by confirming Vice-President Pavel Nedved and the appointment of CEO Maurizio Arrivabene.

“The Board of Directors has just assigned offices and powers: in addition to the confirmation of Chairman and Vice Chairman, which honours Pavel Nedved and me, the Board has appointed Maurizio Arrivabene as CEO.”
