Former referee Graziano Cesari expects huge problems after Antonio Damato was assigned to Saturday’s Juventus-Napoli Scudetto showdown.
“It is a very surprising decision and I really did not expect that,” Cesari told Mediaset Premium.
“He is not a top class official and has never even taken charge of a Champions League match. Will he be able to survive the pressure?”
There is even more controversy around this match after the fiery Italian Super Cup in August, which saw Napoli refuse to attend the trophy ceremony in protest due to two players being sent off.
“Damato is an outsider and they decided to promote a youngster. They did the same with Paolo Valeri for the Milan derby and we all know how that went…
“He is a calm referee who has done well this season. I am only frightened by the fact he is still in the third tier. He lacks experience of big games, so Juventus-Napoli is immediately the most important match of his entire career.”
