Juventus director Beppe Marotta is quoted as saying Carlos Tevez can join Boca Juniors for free, but the comments are disputed.

The striker wants a return to his beloved side in Argentina, but has a contract with the Bianconeri until June 2016.

“The player is human and we must respect the human aspect of this situation,” Marotta was quoted in Argentine paper Olé.

“He has expressed his desire to see out a glorious career in Argentina. We are waiting for his response, as we don’t want to generate a counter-productive situation that would cause problems for all concerned.

“Hopefully we will get an answer by Saturday. If he stays, we will be happy. If he goes, we have a great deal of respect for all he has done and the will of the player is fundamental.”

It was reported Juventus were asking for a €5m fee to release Tevez, but Marotta’s comments suggest the long-standing Boca pact could change that.

“We are prepared to free him from his contract so that he can return home, but not to any other club, especially one in Europe.

“We are certain that if he does leave, it will be for Argentina.”

However, Sky Sport Italia and other sources based in Italy assure Marotta did not tell Olé that Tevez would be allowed to go free of charge.
