The Belgian international has not disguised his frustration with a lack of playing time at Chelsea and spent last season on loan at Everton.
While the Daily Mail today claims Everton are confident of being able to sign Lukaku on a permanent deal, the view in Italy is different.
Sky Sport Italia insists this afternoon that Juventus are still in the race to sign the 21-year-old, particularly as they can offer Champions League football.
The major sticking point could well be the presence of strikers like Carlos Tevez, Fernando Llorente and new arrival Alvaro Morata.
This would mean a lot of time spent on the bench for Lukaku at the Juventus Stadium.
The Bianconeri would also only take him on loan, whereas Everton are prepared to pay for a permanent transfer.
