Fabio Cannavaro believes Juventus remain favourites to win Serie A because of their ‘spirit of sacrifice.’

The former Old Lady centre-back spoke to Gazzetta dello Sport about some of the peninsula’s top teams and how he expects them to fare in the 2015-16 season.

"Juventus are still favourites even though so much has changed,” he said.

“It isn’t a question of numbers or tactics, but the spirit of sacrifice.

The former Old Lady centre-back spoke to Gazzetta dello Sport about some of the peninsula’s top teams and how he expects them to fare in the 2015-16 season.

"Juventus are still favourites even though so much has changed,” he said.

“It isn’t a question of numbers or tactics, but the spirit of sacrifice.

Inter are doing well in the transfer market, they’ve fixed the defence with Miranda and signed physical players like [Geoffrey] Kondogbia.

“[Rudi] Garcia will not repeat certain mistakes, he realised that in Italy you must face the facts at the end of the season.

“Last year Roma thought more about arguing with Juventus in the newspapers than playing.

“[Rafa] Benitez was Napoli’s excuse for the results of the past season. [Maurizio] Sarri, like [Sinisa] Mihajlovic, has good ideas that matter more than experience.

“It isn’t true that he’s come out of nowhere – he’s been coaching for 20 years. Some people think that it only counts to coach in Serie A, but it’s not like this anymore.

“Hopefully [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic returns to Milan – he would always be in my team.

“In defence, you can work on the mechanisms and make it reliable. Of course, in difficult times, individuality is important. But it is not easy to find reliable defenders without overpaying.”
