Ivan Juric believes ‘a draw would’ve been a fair result’ in the Derby della Mole, claiming it was tough for Torino to create chances when Juventus had ‘eight or nine men behind the ball.’

The Granata had a strong start to the season, but have fallen away badly in recent weeks, managing only one point in their last five Serie A games.

“A draw would’ve been a fair result, it was a tough and tense match. In my view, Juve only created chances thanks to our own mistakes,” Juric told DAZN.

“For the rest, we controlled it well. We conceded on a set play, where they have players who are great in the air and we do not. My lads gave their call, I cannot complain about that.”

It’s no secret where the problem lies, as they also scored only two goals during that period and fired blanks again today, albeit not helped by the fact Antonio Sanabria was injured and Pietro Pellegri only fit for the final 20 minutes.

“We lost both our centre-forwards. We tried, but it’s natural you need to practice these situations. The only regret is that at times we made frankly inexplicable mistakes on a purely technical level and that gave Juventus confidence.

“When you play with a five-man defence, you need to create one-on-one situations on the wings. That is not easy when the opposition puts eight or nine players behind the ball.

“We tried to have shots from distance in the second half, but made too many errors. Considering the characteristics of my squad, conceding a goal from a set play can happen.”

Torino have for several years now had a bizarre tendency to concede late goals and this time too the winner came on 74 minutes.

“The sensation I get is that there are moments of the match where the coach no longer matters. You need the players to bring out their grit and keep their cool in certain situations.”
