Ivan Juric is convinced that Roma can ‘regain the fans’ trust’ with performances like the one that allowed them to beat Torino but admits that he ‘can’t be too satisfied’ for now.
Roma beat Juric’s former club, Torino, 1-0 on Thursday, thanks to a first-half goal from Paulo Dybala.
“It was important to bounce back after Florence against a tough team,” Juric told DAZN.
“The lads did well. We played well, we pressed well. It was a challenging moment, but it went well.”
Roma fans booed the players even before the warmup, but Juric is convinced that his team can turn things around. The Giallorossi had lost 5-1 to Fiorentina in the previous round just four days ago.
Juric: ‘Can’t be too satisfied’ as Roma must ‘regain fans’ trust’
“We must make the fans happy. I heard some applause sometimes today. I think we can regain their trust with performances like this. This is big target for the team,” Juric said.
“Understandably, there were difficult moments after Florence, but now we must only think about playing football. We must be focused on football and nothing else. I saw a focused team today. We didn’t concede much to Torino, and I am very satisfied.”
Despite boos, a group of fans also put up a banner to support Juric. It read: ‘Daje Ivan.’
“I don’t know if it’s for me or somebody else,” said the Giallorossi boss.
“I can’t be too satisfied until now. We can do much more and regain the fans’ trust. We can make it with these performances with solidity and ideas.”
Lorenzo Pellegrini was introduced from the bench in the second half, while Manu Kone and Enzo Le Fée started in the middle of the park.
Juric explained that starting Pellegrini on the bench was “a technical decision” and that he was “happy with what he did.”
“Kone and Le Fée are a good duo. I liked them today,” he added.
“They have different characteristics, but they played with intensity.”
Artem Dovbyk missed the game due to a fever, so Dybala played as a false nine.
“Dovbyk had a virus, and I hope he can recover by Sunday. We tried a false nine today, and it worked well, but it will be essential to recover Artem,” Juric concluded.
