Torino coach Ivan Juric clarifies his demands on the transfer market and admits he has gone ‘over the line’ both here and at Hellas Verona. ‘I try not to and it always comes out!’

The Granata beat Bologna 2-1 in the early kick-off, although they controlled the match for a good 80 minutes and should’ve scored more.

“I thought it was a great performance, but we should’ve certainly scored many more goals and the result is too tight,” Juric told Sky Sport Italia.

“The lads needed to step up mentally and I saw that today in their desire to dominate the opponent. I am very satisfied indeed.”

At this stage last season, Torino were in the relegation zone and 10 points worse off than their current position.

However, Juric repeatedly hit the headlines for complaining that President Urbano Cairo is not investing enough in transforming the squad, saying this week he expects very little in January too.

“I am the biggest company man there is, just look at what we achieved at Verona, growing talents to sell them and all done practically without investment. I accept a young squad with prospects that I can work on, that’s not a problem for me.

“I’m not asking for players, it’s the concept I am asking for, and that’s very different. I am not thinking of this season, but the future and making the club stronger, economically stable and comfortable. I believe we need more courage for that and this is where I clash with the President.

“Toro are coming off a period where the club invested €20m for players, but my idea of building is different. For example, at Verona we had Ilic who was this kid and is now a great midfielder. It’s about finding that talent and helping it to develop.

“I am not demanding players and then sulking, it’s the opposite. People need to see me and my staff in a different light.”

Juric was asked if his rather combative and at times extremely brunt way of speaking could perhaps be creating more tension than necessary with his clubs?

“It’s very possible, yes. I went over the line of good behaviour at Verona and did not behave properly with the President. I accept that I can be too much, some might consider me over the top. I try not to and it always seems to come out!

“The fact is, I only want what is best for the club.”

  1. One of the best upcoming coaches, certainly in Serie A the best, and he is impressing two seasons in a row, with 2 different teams. One was newly promoted and this season he transformed a relegation battling Toro into a very calm and quite hard team to play for even the big7 . Good luck in the future Mr.
