After years of success, Inter goalkeeper Julio Cesar is struggling to come to terms with the club’s problems this season.

“This is the first time I've found myself in a situation as tough as this," the Brazilian international noted after the 1-0 defeat at Marseille in the Champions League.

“I've never known anything like it since I joined Inter. We need to show a lot of character, a lot of strength to come through it.”

The Nerazzurri have had a rollercoaster campaign to date. Seven straight wins in Serie A saw them close in on the top of the table, but they’ve now collected just one point from the last 15 available in Italy.

Their Champions League loss in France last night was also their fourth successive reverse in all competitions.

“This is a defeat that really hurts because I think Inter played well tonight and a draw would have been a fairer result,” the South American added.

“We must get ourselves out of this by sticking together, through hard work.

“If we look on the bright side, even after all these defeats we can still get third place in Serie A – that's the minimum obligation for us.

“The same goes in the Champions League as we have 90 minutes available and we hope to go through. We'll go for it in Milan.”
