According to Sky Sport Italia, the Brazilian was requested by new Coach Rafa Benitez and a formal approach has been made.
The veteran would help newcomer Rafael – who is on his way from Santos for €5m – to settle into Serie A.
The door was opened to Julio Cesar after current Napoli goalkeeper De Sanctis was linked with Roma.
It’s reported the Giallorossi would get De Sanctis almost for free and offer a two-year contract.
De Sanctis retired from the Italy squad in March on his 36th birthday.
