Former Inter and Brazil goalkeeper Julio Cesar reveals he is ‘still not over’ conceding that infamous Francesco Totti chip for Roma.

That iconic moment was at San Siro in October 2005 and both men were back there this evening for Samuel Eto’o and his Integration Heroes Match charity event.

“Fortunately, Totti is in my team tonight, the player that caused me the most problems throughout my career,” Julio Cesar told Sky Sport Italia.

“I conceded here at San Siro one of the best goals of his career, that lob in Inter-Roma. That goal still makes me angry to this day.”

The shot-stopper was asked how long it took him to get over that goal.

“I’m still not over it!”

Totti had not only started the run from midfield and shook off several challenges, he then dinked a delightful finish over Julio Cesar to dip under the bar.

It was so much part of Totti’s brand that it became known as a classic ‘Cucchiaio’ (Spoon, the Italian name for the chip finish).

  1. Italy need players of this Calibre now! Where are they? Is investiment in “finished product” players preventing young talented italian players from getting a chance or have Italy stopped producing this style of player???

  2. I think that generation of italy players like del piero, vieri, nesta, maldini, gattuso, inzaghi and so on was a golden generation that can not be replaced. But italy have some young talented players like Zaniolo, locatelli, barella who can step up and fill the gap.but italy needs to believe in youth and stop their mediocre ideology.
