The custodian was a doubt after picking up an injury while on international duty with Brazil last week.

Cesar played 75 minutes in the friendly against Costa Rica before being replaced after complaining of lower back pain.

As a result, he returned to Italy on Monday after it was decided that he wouldn't be risked in this week's tie versus Mexico.

"I'm fine," he told Inter Channel. "I asked to fly back to my club early in order to not risk anything. I hope to recover this week in order to face Catania.

"I spoke to the Brazil staff and it was agreed that I should pull out of the squad. I've had a long journey back here, but I am at the disposal of the team."
