Juan Jesus said Roma “are here to win” in Azerbaijan for tomorrow’s Champions League trip to Qarabag. “We won’t underestimate them.”
It kicks off on Wednesday at 17.00 UK time (16.00 GMT), following on from a 0-0 home draw with Atletico Madrid, while the Baku club lost 6-0 to Chelsea.
“There is never the risk we’ll underestimate the opposition, because we watch all their games and know it’ll be difficult,” said the defender in his Press conference.

“There is never the risk we’ll underestimate the opposition, because we watch all their games and know it’ll be difficult,” said the defender in his Press conference.
“Qarabag are coming off a bad result with Chelsea and want to prove the performance in London was not an accurate view of their capabilities.
“We must prove that we’re here to win. I played against Qarabag at San Siro for Inter and that was tough, because we scored early and then finished it off in the second half. The team has improved a lot since then and I expect a different game.”
Jesus was asked about his initial difficulties settling in at Roma after the move from Inter, dealing with yet more changes in tactics under new boss Eusebio Di Francesco.
“I think every time there are changes, it takes a little while to adapt. From November onwards last year, I started playing the way I always did and hard work pays off.
“I was at Inter for six seasons, so I know full well what it’s like to play in a difficult environment.
“Playing with a higher defensive line is giving us good results. We play higher because we look to the ball, not because we’re trying to play the offside trap, and thus the team is tighter. This is what gives us strength, playing around the ball.
“There’s no reason to be too far away from the ball, otherwise the team gets stretched out.”
